For several years, Anchor Intelligence has been active in the pursuit of fraudulent perpetrators to promote safety and security in online advertising. In October 2009, Anchor announced that it had identified and effectively shut down DormRing1, believed to be the largest click fraud ring ever uncovered. Anchor estimates DormRing1, if undetected, would have cost the affected advertisers over $3 million in wasted advertising dollars over the course of a year. Anchor Intelligence shared its findings with both the San Francisco branch of the FBI and the National Cyber-Forensics & Training Alliance (NCFTA).
Anchor Intelligence also issues a quarterly Traffic Quality Report to provide the online advertising industry with a benchmark for traffic quality based on the Anchor network. In the latter half of 2009, the Anchor Intelligence network saw the average attempted click fraud rate increase from 18.6% in Q3 to 25.7% in Q4 as a result of greater activity by click fraudsters looking to take advantage of the surge in holiday ad spend online. However, over the course of 2009, Anchor saved advertisers more than $35 million by identifying click fraud in real time, before it could impact advertiser spend.
