SLICK CASHIER

Several years ago I selected an expensive sofa along with a few smaller decorative items at a large furniture/appliance store here in Omaha. The cashier ask me for my credit card, my drivers' license, and an additional document with my photo to Xerox. The request never crossed my mind as being odd because I thought they were just being careful. The cashier's helper (who didn't speak English - or at least that I heard) jammed the photocopier, then dropped all the cards and ended up scrambling around on the floor, picking them up, and stuffed them in the sack with the receipt. By the time the transaction was finished quite a few customers had lined up behind me, so like a dope, I didn't check to see if they were all there. They weren't. A week later a cell phone company called and ask when I was going to pick-up my new cell phone. That's when I called the police. From that point on for the next several months my credit card and phone bill looked like the War Debt. It cost me a $50 fee, my pride, and nearly a year to get my credit report straightened out. Moral: Regardless of how hurried you are made to feel, always check and double check your cards and the names on those card. Although I can't prove it, I firmly believe those two women were working a scam on unsuspecting customers.
